Some health insurance plans include a contribution towards an eligible ADHD or other neurodevelopmental assessment. Adult and child benefits can differ substantially, so it is worth checking the exact benefit before booking or assuming the cost must be met entirely yourself.
Dooley Insurance Group can review the relevant assessment benefits on suitable Irish Life Health plans available through our appointment. We help you compare the policy terms and potential personal cost; we do not diagnose ADHD or determine which clinical assessment a person needs.
Irish Life Health’s published handbook describes separate Adult Neurodiversity and Child Development assessment benefits, where included in the selected plan. ADHD is among the conditions addressed by those benefit descriptions.
The adult benefit is described for members aged 18 and over, while the child development benefit applies to eligible members under 18. The assessment, practitioner and receipt must meet the insurer’s criteria. These assessment contributions do not by themselves provide ongoing treatment cover.
Ask which handbook and benefit table apply to your own policy. A general neurodiversity heading, psychology refund or employee assistance service should not be treated as proof that a full diagnostic assessment is insured.
Published Irish Life Health plan information reviewed on 21 October 2026 shows different assessment contributions. These examples illustrate variation, not a recommendation or a comparison of every available plan.
| Example plan | Published adult assessment benefit | Published child assessment benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Better Select ILH | 75% up to €2,500 | 75% up to €2,500 |
| LiveWell | 75% up to €500 | 75% up to €500 |
Read the relevant handbook and benefit table with the plan information. Availability, current benefits and eligibility must be confirmed before purchasing or booking. A larger assessment contribution does not automatically make a plan the best overall choice.
Ask the insurer whether the proposed practitioner and assessment meet its eligibility requirements. Confirm the clinical service being booked, the member’s age, the total assessment cost and whether any referral or prior confirmation is needed.
An assessment can involve more than one appointment or professional. Establish whether the insurer’s contribution relates to the full assessment or a particular part of the service. A fee for each appointment does not necessarily create a separate claim allowance.
Do not assume a policy bought now will pay for an assessment already planned or a condition already being investigated. Ask the insurer how waiting periods, pre-existing-condition rules and any higher-benefit period apply to the specific circumstances.
Compare the additional annual premium, hospital access and other benefits alongside the possible assessment contribution. A decision based only on one reimbursement may create a more expensive or less suitable overall arrangement.
Where a child or adult is already insured, start by checking the existing policy. The relevant benefit may have a different name from the assessment described on the clinic’s website.
Dooleys can help explain the insurer’s claim process and the documents required for an assessment-benefit enquiry. Keep the provider’s itemised receipt and the insurer’s confirmation.
The insurer determines whether a claim meets the policy terms. Clinical advice, diagnostic pathways and the suitability of a report for any separate purpose should be discussed with the relevant qualified practitioner or organisation.
No. Check the specific adult or child assessment benefit, eligibility, limits and applicable waiting periods.
No. The assessment contribution should be distinguished from any separate follow-up, therapy, consultation or prescription benefit.
Not necessarily. A percentage contribution, cap, excess or other condition can leave a personal balance.
We can review suitable Irish Life Health options within our appointment and explain the trade-offs. No single plan is best for every adult or child.
